Some New Oxo Toys and New Place To Play

I have had a very busy week so this is not much of a food post but I wanted to share a cool NYC park with you.
I saw an announcement on Oxo Good Grips Facebook page that they were having a sample sale to be held in their Manhattan offices. So not only was I able to snag a few “toys” at a great price but it finally brought me over close to the Highline Park and I decided to visit as I had been wanting to do this for a long time.

The High Line is a park built on an out of commission elevated rail line  on the Manhattan’s far West Side.It runs from below 14th  Meatpacking District, through Chelsea, to 34th Street. Much of the planting is from what had naturalized when  the line was in disuse. It is very interesting and gives you a perspective in the city you don’t usually get. It cuts through what would have been industrial and warehouse waterfront and is now home to luxury high rise apartment buildings, art galleries and hotels.

Here are the pieces I bought at the sample sale. The main thing I needed was a mandoline for making some thinly sliced vegetables. While it was not as good as the professional model I use at work it is actually pretty good for home use and I will be putting it through it paces in the coming weeks.

I made a potato pancake along the lines of a Pomme Anna with some Parmesan cheese just as a test of the blade and it made beautiful thin slices.
As you ca see I also purchased a micro plane these have got to be one of the most versatile low cost tools ever.
