Mikes Miscellaneous Mondays My Old Yellow Cab Fixation

Growing up in Ireland I always felt yellow cabs were iconic of NYC. So when I made the city my home and wanted to take photographs I used yellow cabs to tie the images together. I would actually frame a shot and wait for a cab to come into the frame before pressing the shutter.

No commentary here just some photos for you to check out.

Mikes Miscellaneous Mondays..He Went That Way,Fashion Model and NYPD

I will be on the last couple of days of my vacation in Ireland when this posts. I thought a single photo that gives the feel of my adopted city would be a good thing to do. I will be sharing some posts on my time in Ireland over the coming weeks.

Mike’s Miscellaneous Mondays 5 .. Random Photos Can Be Fun

Just a few photos for you to enjoy. I am always snapping when I am out and about. In NYC street photography is easier than any places and oppurtunities seem to present themselves all the time.I could title this little series before, during and after the rain. Put that would be pushing it

Mikes Miscellaneous Mondays 4. Seeing The World Squarely

I wanted to share some photos from my phone. When I recently got on the iPhone bandwagon little did I know I would become addicted to one of the apps on the phone. Instagram has me composing images with a square format image in mind. From food photography to street photography you can have fun with it all. It is no SLR but I cannot fit an SLR in my pocket or use it to call my mother in Ireland.Overall I think you can create some pretty cool images. Click on the thumbnail to see a larger version.

Mikes Miscellaneous Mondays 1st Edition.. Holy Canolli

I have come to the realization that I tend to take lots of photos of stuff that can not easily stand alone as a blog post. So I thought I would start a somewhat regular feature where I would share some stuff I just gather on my wanderings.
This is actually the photo that triggered me wanting to start this as I really wanted to share it but did not know how to frame the idea.

I cannot take credit for this but we use a great Italian bakery at work and my boss requested they make the giant cannoli's as a great way to present the minis. This looked so good on the buffet.

I wonder what they used as a cannoli tube for the large ones.

Feel free to post a link to your favorite Canolli recipe in the comments section.

Valentine's Food, Grand Central Market and a Surprisingly Good Camera

“The best camera is the one you have with you.” I have no idea who to attribute that quote to but it is very accurate. I have a Canon DSLR which I love and it produces great images but it is not always practical to carry it with me. I recently purchased an iphone 4S and have been  amazed at the quality of the photos.
These first shots are from a Valentine’s special we were running. A Seafood Medley with a Miso Sauce. Followed by either a Peach Mousse or a Red Velvet Mousse.

I posted in the past about Grand Central Terminal
Market and if you check that link you will see these photographs give them a run for their money.

I have been having a lot of fun using Instagram which is a free App for the Iphone which adds creative filters to images.
Overall it was so cool to be able to take good photos with something I have in my pocket anyhow.

On another note a very nice app is Mark Bittman’s How To Cook Everything App. I have always’s been a fan of his and own the book version and think this is a great value at $4.99.

I know this probably reads like an ad for Apple but is actually just my own opinions. If any readers have favorite iPhone apps please let everyone know in the comments section.

This and That AKA Stuff I Missed

I always take many more photos than I could ever share. I thought I would post some stuff I shot last year and really had no individual blog post I could put them in. I guess you could call these “my wanderings”.

I was very amused to see an eviction notice at the Psychic’s place now you would think she would have seen that coming.

I was sorry not to have made it back to Holiday Train Show this year but check out this video. I can’t recommend this enough if you are in the New York Area close to the holidays.

The Irish Famine Memorial in Philadelphia is much more impressive in person than photographed.

I have some family issues at the moment and have little time on my hands but hope to be back posting food photos and recipe soon.

Now this is a cool idea and I will be taking part. I of course need to decide what i am going to do.

I moderated a similar idea on a smaller scale six years ago on Wetcanvas.com.
