Union Square Market and Eataly

I was out and about in Manhattan yesterday and realized that within a short walk of each other you can get to experience two very different food shopping venues.

Union Square  Greenmarket is in full swing with an incredible range of  product being brought into the city by local producers. Organic produce is the main focus of this market but there are is also seafood, meats, baked goods and much more.union square eataly steve

A short walk up Broadway in the shadow of the Flatiron building is the Eataly complex. I am somewhat at a loss to describe this place as it is a market, has three restaurants, gelato store, cooking school, beer garden…….well you get the idea. This is the brainchild of Mario Batali, Joe Bastianich, Lidia Matticchio Bastianich and Eataly founder Oscar Farinetti. I really want to visit this place again but early in the day and midweek because  just could not believe how crowded  it was.

I found this floor plan on their website to give you some idea of just how big this place is. It is expensive but has an incredible array of quality products. And even if you are not up for spending big money it is worth a visit just to look around.eataly_map_new
